The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with His Excellency Mr. Nicolas de Lacoste, Ambassador of France to Suriname and Guyana.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with His Excellency Mr. Nicolas de Lacoste, Ambassador of France to Suriname and Guyana.

Ambassador Lacoste was accompanied by Mr. Jean -Jacques Forte, Charge d’Affaires a.i. at the French  Diplomatic Office in Guyana.

During the meeting Minister Todd provided an update on recent actions by Venezuela. The Minister reiterated the commitment of Guyana to a peaceful resolution of the matter before the International Court of Justice in accordance with the principles of international law.

Minister Todd and Ambassador Lacoste also exchanged views on the One Planet Polar Summit to be held in Paris in November and  environmental initiatives promoted by France, including those to combat the mass beaching of sargassum on the Caribbean coasts.

Ambassador Lacoste further extended congratulations to Minister Todd on Guyana’s election as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and expressed France’s willingness to collaborate with Guyana during its tenure on the Security Council.
