Mrs. Arya Ali, First Lady of Guyana. On Earth day, joined NAREI and the Protected Areas Commission to launch a national tree planting exercise which will be continuous for the next four years.

As Guyana continues to accelerate plans to further develop its oil resources, it is equally important for attention to be placed on environmental sustainability. More than just enhancing the scenic qualities of public spaces, my National Beautification Project aims to do just that. So, today, on Earth Day, I joined NAREI and the Protected Areas Commission to launch a national tree planting exercise which will be continuous for the next four years.

Because it is also international year of fruits and vegetables, we thought it fitting to plant fruit trees in the National Park. Among the fruit trees planted were guava, cherry and mango. Some other groups like Seawalls and Beyond, the GAWU women’s arm, and Youths for Better Living also joined in to have fruit trees planted at several other locations around Georgetown.
