Official launching of the ‘Welcome to Guyana’ sign at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA)

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has joined his wife Mrs. Arya Ali for the official unveiling of the ‘Welcome to Guyana’ monument at the roundabout in Timehri, East Bank Demerara.
The monument is part of the First Lady’s National Beautification Project which seeks to safeguard the country’s scenic beauty; while creating environmentally friendly locations for Guyanese to interact.

H.E. First Lady Mrs. Arya Ali said

After months of hard work which involved meticulous planning and consistent stakeholder engagement, we officially launched the ‘Welcome to Guyana’ sign at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) today – a project estimated to be in excess of $25M.
This is the first of a number of scenic conservation and revitalization initiatives which falls under my National Beautification Project and I am immensely proud of the efforts of all those who would have played a meaningful role in bringing this project to life.

The development of this area will, without a doubt, add to the value of Guyana’s rich tourism experience, and support efforts to market Brand Guyana. A strong country brand encourages tourists, trading partners and investors all at once, and that is what Guyana needs.
In an emerging economy like ours, marketing is functionally important. So, every tourist, expat, or even local who snaps a photograph at this multi-million dollar sign and uploads it to their social media profile is helping us to improve and increase Guyana’s brand awareness.
At the same time, an enhanced public space gives locals in the area something to feel proud of and celebrate. And ultimately, for us, it is about providing a better and happier life for our people.
Thanks to the sponsors CJIA, Impressions, and TotalTech for making this possible.
Do enjoy this space when you are in Timehri.
