The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation earlier today, had a telephonic engagement with His Excellency, Dr Constantinoa Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus.

During the engagement, the Ministers followed up on previous discussions undertaken on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly between Guyana and Cyprus which were aimed at strengthening the cooperation agenda between the two countries at both the bilateral and multilateral levels, including at the United Nations, and the Commonwealth.

Minister Kombos also expressed the unwavering support of Cyprus to Guyana on the Guyana/Venezuela Border Controversy.

Minister Todd further underscored Guyana’s commitment to the rule of international law and reaffirmed Guyana’s principled stance and strong support for Cyprus’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Both Ministers agreed to continue advancing political dialogue and pursuing mutually beneficial objectives in the interest of both countries, and working closely during Guyana’s tenure on the United Nations Security Council.

Guyana and Cyprus established diplomatic relations on February 01, 1972, and have shared friendly relations since.
